Ready. Set. WRITE! Goal Setting Post

We’re back! And ready for Ready. Set. WRITE! We hope you’re looking forward to another productive summer! If you’re wondering what RSW is all about, it’s a summer long writing intensive through which we write/revise/plan like crazy, cheer each other on, and hold one another accountable with weekly updates. We’ll be sharing our goals on Mondays and keeping our posts brief so we can save our words for our WiPs! J Sign up on the linky at one of the host blogs each week, and remember to hop around to encourage other participants. For more info on RSW and a link to our lovely stash of buttons, click here!
Starting next week, we’ll be updating progress and setting new goals using these headings

●How I did on last week’s goal(s)

●My goal(s) for this week

●A favorite line from my story OR a word or phrase that sums up what I wrote/revised

●The biggest challenge I faced this week (ie finding time to write, getting sick, having writer’s block, etc)

●Something I love about my WIP

BUT since today’s our kick-things-off Monday, I’m sharing my goals for next week as well as some overall dreams/wishes/hopes for my writing this summer.

OVERALL DREAM for RSW
I’m 30K into my current WiP, and my overall hope is that I finish this monster by the end of RSW. I’m not calling it a “goal” because I don’t do well with overall goals, but that’s my summer dream.  J *fingers crossed*
And while we’re on the subject of lofty dreams, I also plan to revise/gut/reconfigure the first forty pages of my most recent story THOSE MAGIC CHANGES. This one may be even more challenging then that first “goal.”
GOALS FOR THE WEEK OF JUNE 9th
Write 5000 words.

Yep. Short and sweet. Now, I’m off to write!
How about you?! Are you doing RSW?! What are your goals for the next week?
And don’t forget to sign up on the linky!

  1. 5,000 words? *eyeballs bulge* Go Alison! I always have to remind myself some people can pump out that many. (I try for 100 a day. Usually by 100 I've found my groove and can write 300, 400, 500. :-)) Good luck with your draft finishing for this summer --- you can do it!

    1. Did I mention those 5000 words are usually CRAPPY words. But it gets me to write and well, that's what's important on first draft, right? And yeah - I'm like that too. Once I get going, I don't usually want to stop. :)

  2. Good luck with your summer dream :) And with your 5000 words!

  3. Wow, 5000 words! I'm aiming for 500 words a day, five days a week, which feels like tons right now lol. Good luck! I want to finish my own WiP monster by the end of RSW, too, so we're in the same boat there. :-)

    1. Yes - but I'm sure you're 500 are way more polished than my 5000. :) And you can do it, Jaime!

  4. I like your use of the word "dream" in place of goal. So magical. :-) Best of luck with your 5K, though I highly doubt you'll need it. And send me some good stuff already!

    1. Ha. Did NOT even think of dream that way, but yes! Magical - I LIKE IT! And I'm working on some stuff to send you. Don't know how good it is, but working on it!

  5. Go, Alison! You can totally finish that WIP this summer! I don't usually like to call things "goals" either, because it scares me out of actually achieving them. Goals, aims, dreams--whatever. Let's hope RSW gets us there :)

    1. Thank you for your encouraging words! And yes - GOAL is a freakishly scary word to me too. So, I like dream. :) And yes - go us!

  7. Good luck with your goals - you can do it! I didn't think I could write as much as 5K in a week, but then I managed to make it happen during Camp NaNoWriMo. Accountability FTW! :)

    1. Thank you! And don't think too highly of me - I write a lot of words, but they are so far from usable on first draft. It will get there though. It always seems to!

  9. Every time I see someone post such a large word count in a week I think WOW. Then I realize if you break it down, it's not so scary! Good luck on your goals and summer dreams!

    1. Thanks, lady! I don't do well with daily goals but yeah - it's pretty much under 1K a day if you think about it. Not bad. :)

  15. I think you have it in you to finish your WIP this summer, but I like that you're calling it a dream, not a goal. It makes not hitting it a lot less nerve-wracking. Good luck hitting 5K this week!

Also, you're revising TMC? If you need another pair of eyes when you're done, just let me know (even though I liked it the first time around).

    1. You are so sweet! And yes - I will probably take you up on that pair of eyes so THANK YOU! :)

And I "think" I can finish the new one. I'm hoping that's a lot more than wishful thinking, lol.

  16. Gutting and revising seems to take so much longer than getting those initial words down. I have a lot of the same going on.
